Oh, Sleep: Poem

Sleep

Come to me in the silence of the night

Come Sleep, oh Sleep

The certain knot of peace

I sought a theme and sought for it in vain

No longer mourn for me when I am dead

The House was quiet and the World was calm

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall

Beyond all this, the wish to be alone:

Half of my Life has gone, and I have let

If there exists a hell – the case is clear –

A sudden blow – the great Wings beating still
